About this Exhibition

With the Lieux sauvages (Wild Places) exhibition, I wanted to transpose my fascination for the natural textures that vegetation can offer to the eye.

It is during the last few seasons spent walking in nature, on hikes or paddling along the water, that I have been able to observe the different shades of green that the leaves, trees, and lichens highlighted.

I suddenly imagined myself recreating this vegetation with oil paint and my sculptural techniques, and allowing myself to immortalize what I had been able to see during my walks, a way of keeping a tangible memory of the particulars colors that only nature can impart.

These works are capsules of my last days spent wandering in the forest, these wild places not so far from the city, in the Laurentians, in Lanaudière, near the Missisquoi River and the Saguenay, with in mind dreams of trips to Ecuador and the verdant forests of the Amazon.

The result is singular abstract landscape works, featuring flyovers of the canopy of dense boreal forests, lush bushes, or macroscopic shots of mosses and lichens growing on a tree trunk — a way to extend a too short summer, attempt to immortalize the green nature where the abundance of greenery reigns there in tone on tone.
